Voices from the East: Stories from Sabah and Sarawak
As much as we look at Malaysian stories on screen, oft-forgotten are representations of our brethren from Borneo. With the increase in such stories being told, the time is right to push forward with a greater discussion on films, filmmakers and ideas from Sabah and Sarawak. Panel members will discuss issues relating to the current context, as well as how things could be improved in the future.
Featuring: Jasmine Suraya Chin, Nadira Ilana and Putri Purnama Sugua
Humble Beginnings: The Young Filmmakers of Malaysia
Filmmaking is a challenging endeavour at best, and while it can be ultimately rewarding, the journey is not without its own frustrations. This panel brings together young Malaysian filmmakers to discuss issues related to filmmaking in terms of the practical and the creative.
Featuring: Bradley Liew, Shamaine Othman and We Jun
Blockbusting: Analysing the Malaysian Box Office
More and more films are breaking records on a yearly basis, yet the box office and Malaysian cinema as a whole has suffered, with lower totals than ever before. What’s the cause of both these phenomena? What has changed from before, and where will we go from here? The Blockbusting panel seek to discuss these issues and more with seasoned filmmakers and professionals.
